Moyles Red Nose

Radio 1 Breakfast DJ Chris Moyles and his sidekick Comedy Dave are aiming to stay awake for over 37 hours while broadcasting their show, in a bid to claim the record for the radio stations longest show in history, to help raise money for Red Nose Day.

No stranger to a challenge, Moyles has already defied all medical odds and climbed Kilimanjaro and now he is hoping to beat a record set by Simon Mayo back in 1999 when he broadcast for 37 hours, raising money for Comic Relief.

The record breaking attempt will start on March 16th at 6.30am when the Chris Moyles Breakfast show takes to the air and along with Comedy Dave there will be further support from fellow Radio 1 DJs and celebrity guests throughout the long and punishing schedule.

Each hour that Chris and Dave are on air they will be entitled to a five-minute break which they can either take each hour or save up to earn a longer sleep later on.

Chris Moyles says: “In 2009 I broke the record for being the longest-serving Breakfast DJ on Radio 1, so I thought, why not go for broadcasting the longest radio show on Radio 1 too! Of course I’m worried about what the lack of sleep will do to me, but the pain will be worth it if we can raise a fortune for Comic Relief.”

Comedy Dave adds: “I’d love to say I’m really excited about it, but every time we talk about the project I feel tired and start yawning!!”

Andy Parfitt, Controller, BBC Radio 1, says: “Last week Radio 1 listeners raised over £500,000 for Red Nose Day – once again our listeners have been amazingly generous. Time and time again they surpass our expectations and I know they’ll get behind Chris and Dave as they embark on this amazing challenge.”

The event will be broadcast live on Radio 1, and for anyone brave enough to watch the attempt unfold, it will also be broadcast live in-vision on digital TV via the Red Button and online at bbc.co.uk/radio 1.

Work on the TV series Two and a Half Men had been suspended while Sheen was in rehab and an announcement had been made this week by CBS saying that recording for the show would re-commence when the actor was discharges early next week.

That was before Sheen’s untimely rant on the radio which has since led his employers at CBS & Warner Bros to announce that they are ending production of the lucrative series for this season although the future of the sitcom beyond this series was not addressed.

Surely Sheen has gone too far this time, isn’t it about time that he was discarded by TV companies that reputedly pay him $1.8million for each episode of Two and a Half Men?

Lindsay_Lohan

Poor little rich girl Lindsay Lohan is back in court in LA today for a preliminary hearing regarding the theft of a $2,500 dollar necklace which was allegedly stolen from an upmarket jewellers in the LA beach community of Venice.

Lohan has already pleaded not guilty to the theft, although the necklace was handed over to police before they could raise a search warrant to search the actresses home.

Lohan’s attorney Shawn Holley has denied that Lohan stole the necklace and has reported to the court that the actress has passed all drug tests.

The necklace theft took place three weeks after Lohan was released from prison, she has been sent to prison twice and rehab twice in the last twelve months for violating probation terms.

It has been reported that the prosecuting counsel is ready to present Lohan’s lawyer with a formal offer to plea bargain the case, but has indicated that any deal will involve a significant length of time in jail.

Having seen his employers at the BBC  issue an apology over remarks made on the popular TV show Top Gear by his co-presenter Richard Hammond describing Mexicans as ‘lazy, feckless and flatulent’, Clarkson has accused the corporation of having no sense of humour.

Writing in the daily comic the Sun, Clarkson attempted to make the point that without offensive humour, there can be no jokes. He goes on to quote several jokes involving various nationalities, including British.

Then despite the earlier apology Clarkson was at it again claiming, ‘Mexico doesn’t have an Olympic team, because anyone who can run, jump or swim is already across the border.’

Barely amusing to be honest and never a joke.

It appears that Mexicans may well have the last laugh though as a Mexican student in London has instructed lawyers to bring a test case against the Top Gear presenters, demanding that the BBC is taken off air and an investigation is made over the comments by its presenters.

So anyone who has invested their money in the latest fitness or diet DVD fad only to be disappointed with its content, has no-one to blame but themselves.

There is barely a ‘larger’ female involved in a UK soap who has not recognised the opportunity of a cash spinner on the side and succumbed to making yet another video nasty, ‘how I shed my excess weight’, as though the whole idea is something revolutionary.

Fitness DVD’s will invariably end up being touted around Sunday Car Boot sales if they don’t get consigned to the cupboard under the sink with the sandwich toaster and other useless junk that families manage to accumulate.

So anyone who bought and was disappointed with any of the following Ten Worst Rated Fitness DVDs, forget miracles, eat less and exercise more and above all don’t line some overpaid actresses pocket with your hard earned income!

Simply Red singer Mick Hucknall has apologised for his philandering past through an interview in the Guardian, the ginger haired singer claims that during the peak of his stardom he was simply unable to say no and regularly slept with ‘about three women a day, every day.’

I can’t say I blame him, it appears that beautiful women like Cathereine Zeta Jones, Helen Christensen and Radio DJ Lisa I’Anson just couldn’t get enough of the Charlie Drake look alike.

Perversely Hucknall claims that it was his womanising behaviour that led to his mother leaving him when he was just three years old, he tries to explain that by saying “I wanted the love of every woman on the planet because I didn’t have my mothers love.”

It took a long time for the singer to realise that sleeping with hundreds of women would never give him the emotional attachment that he craved and in 1996, bored with philandering he turned to the bottle.

He spent the next five years more interested in booze than seducing women and claims this was the darkest period he had ever experienced in his life.

Hucknall has since married Gabriella Wesberry and the couple have a three year old daughter Romy. He has announced that he will be quitting Simply Red after a final tour this year.

Michael who was recently jailed for constantly driving and crashing his car while under the influence of drugs will be interviewed by former chat show host Ross in what is thought to be a one off special.

No doubt the public will turn on in their droves, but what is there to learn about either of these two that we don’t already know.

While Michael became a massive star in his own right as a pop singer, he chose to turn his back on that career in favour of smoking spliff ’s while cruising around London.

He has already proved to be as interesting as a caravan site when he was interviewed in a Michael Parkinson ‘exclusive’ after being caught hanging out in a men’s toilet.

So what makes an interview with Ross so interesting? Even if the former singer could get a word in edge-ways which is doubtful, what is there that anyone would want to know?

Yesterday Nathan Graves ex Head of Jazz for Universal Music Group UK and now founder of Imperial Music backed Elton John’s attack on today’s pop industry.

“It is NOT the way it is done.. you have to pay your dues.. and then.. and only then.. can you possibly develop the skills both to entertain.. and to survive success” said Suzi Quatro.

Nathan Graves said: “The mass market fascination with talent show creations is coming to the natural end of its life cycle.”

X Factor certainly pulls in the viewers on a Saturday night but where does this so called talent go when the show ends? Last year the so-called ‘guaranteed’ debut Christmas number one single was taken away from Joe McElderry by a group on Facebook petition last year.

“The market is desperate to hear people who have genuine talent,” added Nathan Graves, who launched the career of massive crossover jazz star Jamie Cullum. “Artists who have grafted hard for hard-earned recognition are making a big come-back.”

Saturday’s X Factor reject Storm Lee has dismissed the programme as ‘not a singing show’ in this weeks X Magazine, following his dismissal from the show.

The 37 year old was voted off the X Factor following his brave but futile attempt at doing the Bruce Springsteen classic Born To Run any justice in the live finals on Saturday.

Obviously relieved at losing out Storm Lee accused his mentors of stifling his ability saying that he is ‘too creative’ to have gone any further with the show and was glad to have been sent packing.

Speaking to X Magazine Lee said;

“If this was a real singing show, I would have won. I’m the most versatile singer out of all of the contestants. That’s not me being arrogant, but I realised early on that it’s not a singing show, it’s a popularity competition. I feel really relieved to be out, actually. Right from the start I was pushing against a lot of factors that were really against me, and I knew, quite early on, that I was probably a bit too creative for the show, a bit too polished and too self-realised.
I don’t feel like Louis…I feel like he connects with Mary, connects with John, probably connects in a kooky way with Wagner, but I feel Louis and I hadn’t connected the way I thought or hoped we would.”

Obviously believing that he has a bright future ahead of him, despite having waited all his life for the X Factor opportunity as he said during the auditions, Lee added;

“I feel like I’ve won without winning, by being visible to millions and millions of people who actually liked me.
That’s what makes music so brilliant for me. I really believe there’s room for everyone. All those artists I love like Lady Gaga, Prince, Madonna, they maybe wouldn’t have got this far, and I feel really proud.
