Heath Ledger was found dead in his apartment last month at the age of only 28 years. He was surrounded by bottles of anti-anxiety drugs and sleeping pills, naked and face-down on his bed.
The New York City medical examiner’s office announced on Wednesday that Ledger died of accidental intoxication caused by a cocktail of painkillers and anti-anxiety drugs.
The actor’s father said yesterday of the toxicology reports “this should put an end to the speculation”, however, some US experts have said that the amount of drugs that he had consumed meant that he was “playing Russian roulette”.
How can they say for certain that this was an accident, he had already admitted that he suffered sleeplessness and anxiety so obviously there was already problems in this young man’s life.
His relationship with this girlfriend Michelle Williams, mother of his two-year-old daughter Matilda, had been ruined by his hard partying as well as the claims of his wild cocaine and ecstasy binges with Naomi Campbell, were these accidents too.
There were said to have been six different drugs in the actor’s system according to the toxicology reports oxycodone, hydrocodone, diazepam, temazepam, alprazolam and doxyalmine.
A statement from the Medical Examiner said “Mr Heath Ledger died as a result of acute intoxication by the combined effects of “(the above drugs) , “We have concluded that the manner of death is accidental, resulting from the abuse of prescription medications”.
It is a tragic waste of a life, I agree, but maybe it should have been left as an open verdict, accidental or not, if you play around with that amount of drugs sooner or later it is going to kill you.
